In 1704 the Debourne Estate in Cowes leased the land called St Mary's mead on which the Anchor now stands, for 99 years to one Ladowyke Brandenburg, a victualler. Called the 'House of the Three Trumpeters' it became the principle coaching inn of Cowes. The name changed to the 'Anchor Inn' in the 1820's
